What are Feed-in Tariffs?

A government funded scheme set up to incentivise homeowners to generate electricity via renewable means.

To be eligible for the feed-in tariff, your solar panel system must be installed by a registered MCS installer.

The feed-in tariffs are frequently revised, usually once or twice annually. This is known as ‘degression’, and this occurs across all financial incentives for renewables including the RHI. These tariffs are payable over 20 years except for installations fitted prior to 1stAugust 2012, which are payable for 25 years.

Once your solar panel installation is fitted, your feed-in tariff rate remains fixed at that rate for the duration of the payment contract. The tariffs are linked to the Retail Price Index (RPI) so can increase slightly over time with inflation.

All solar panel installations must be installed and signed off by a registered MCS installer.

You must inform your local Distribution Network Operator (DNO) about the installation so they know that there is a new self-generating unit on their grid.

We are able help you inform the DNO and apply for tariffs should you require assistance.

3 Reasons To Choose Solar Panels

Reduced Energy Bills

One of the main influences on switching to a solar panel system is the savings on energy bills by using daylight as a form of energy, rather than drawing electricity from the national grid. Depending on the size of the solar panel system you decide on and the orientation of your roof, a solar panel system from Alleco can provide at least 50% of your annual household electricity.

Guaranteed Income

The government have introduced the Feed-in tariff (FiT) to increase the percentage of power generated by renewable sources in the UK. The Feed-in tariff has been fixed for 20 years from the date of your solar panel installation and pays you for the amount of electricity produced from you system.

Carbon Footprint Reduction

By opting for one of our residential solar panel systems, you are lowering your reliance on electricity produced by fossil fuels that are supplied by the national grid. The electricity that is produced by your solar panels result in no emissions being released. By using a solar panel system, you are dramatically reducing your carbon footprint.

Questions & Answers

How do Solar Panels work?

Solar Panel cells are made from a semi-conducting material, they produce electricity when photons (daylight) react which electrons (semi-conducting material). To put it simply, the solar panel cells capture the light energy from the sun during the day and convert it to electricity in a clean and sustainable way.

How much will it cost?

The cost will depend on the size of a suitable system for your property, the installation and the brand you decide on. All our prices are broken down and explained during your free consultation. Book an appointment today to find our how much it will cost exactly.

How many panels need to be installed?

The amount of solar panels you need will depend on the size of system you decide to choose and the amount of roof space required. For example, a 2 kW system will require 14m2 of roof space.

How long is the installation?

Our installations normally take 1 day, however some properties require 2 days. Scaffolding will be erected on the face of your property so that panels can be installed, we always aim to work with minimal disruptions.

How much will I save?

The amount of savings will depends on the cost of electricity and future rates of inflation. We can calculate the actual amount of energy that can be generated through your system during our free consultation. These figures will be used in comparison to the current cost of electricity and show you how much you can save and how much the government Feed-In Tarriff will earn you each year.

What is the Feed-in-Tariff?

Energy companies are obliged to pay investors who generate their own electricity from solar panels under the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) scheme. The government regulate the level of payment to encourage homeowners to use the energy generated by the sun. The Feed-in-Tariff is tax free and linked for 20 years.

What happens if I move?

Should you opt to have a solar panel system installed, this will be inherited by the new home owner. They are buying a house that generates them an annual income of say £800 per year and protects them against future electricity costs and rises. The solar panel system you have installed will be added to the value of your home, which could increase your property value by 6% (according to The Guardian).
